Have you ever started your match feeling sluggish or flat? I find that the foods you eat the night before and the morning of are very important in preparing for match day. The things you eat and drink have a direct impact on your physical and mental strength. Even though competitive shooting is not a physically demanding sport as say football or running marathon, you still must prepare your body to be in the best shape you can. I think of competitive shooting like golf, you stand around for long periods of time and when its your turn to hit, you have to be able to swing the club with the same speed, consistency, and accuracy on the 18th tee box as you did on the 1st tee box.
Your performance needs to be consistent throughout the entire match, not just on one stage. So eating a balanced meal and drinking plenty of water the night before and the morning of a match, will help keep your strength.
For dinner, it is a good idea to eat foods that are high in protein such as leafy greens, grilled chicken, grilled fish, or lean steak. The morning of, look to get foods that are rich in carbohydrates. Foods such as whole wheats, bagels, oatmeals, bananas, and apples. You want to avoid things high in sugar or liquids that will dehydrate you, such as caffeine.
All of these things can better your match performance. When every "A" and second counts, I want every advantage I can get.
